INSURANCE

Ursula Brandon has been promoted to vice president of personal lines at JAG Insurance Group, a full-service commercial insurance agency. Brandon, who was account manager, is based in JAG’s Coral Gables office. Before joining the agency 12 years ago, Brandon held administrative positions at State Farm and Hub International.

LAW

Daniella G. Silberstein joins Greenberg Traurig as a shareholder in the firm’s Miami corporate practice group. She was at Jones Walker in Louisiana, where she was co-chair of the mergers & acquisitions and private equity team, a member of the firm’s board of directors, and a partner in the corporate practice group. Silberstein focuses her practice on U.S. and cross-border transactions across industries such as healthcare, biotechnology, oil and gas, and retail, on both the buy-side and sell-side. She has a bachelor’s in biology and economics from Columbia and a J.D. from Harvard.

MEDIA

At NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises:

▪ Karen Barroeta has been named executive vice president of production and development at Telemundo Global Studios, effective July 6. She was senior vice president of marketing and creative at Telemundo. Before that, she was general manager at Telemundo Internacional pay TV channel in Latin America, heading all revenue efforts.

▪ Claudia Chagui has been appointed senior vice president of marketing and creative, effective July 6. Chagui is the founder and owner of 2C LLC, an independent creative consulting firm based in Miami. Previously, Chagui worked for Discovery Networks Latin America.

NONPROFITS

At Friends of The Underline (FUL), a 501C3 nonprofit organization advocating to transform the underutilized land below Miami’s Metrorail into a 10-mile linear park, urban trail and public art destination:

▪ Patrice Gillespie Smith was appointed as COO and has more than 20 years of experience as an urban planner. She has been the senior manager of planning, transportation and resilience for the Miami Downtown Development Authority; led Neat Streets Miami; and developed the Safer People, Safer Streets Action Plan and the Miami Dade Complete Streets Guidelines.

▪ Breanna Faye was named chief technology officer. An architect-turned-technologist, she has worked globally with organizations such as IDEO, MIT Media Lab, Dubai Future Foundation, and most recently Museum of Ice Cream, where she was vice president of experiential technology. She has overseen projects spanning the future of work, IoT, smart mobility, buildings and cities.

Name: Shannon Odell

New position: Chief nursing officer at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami as chief nursing officer.

About: She will be responsible for the leadership and management of the nursing department and for the clinical practice of nursing throughout the hospital and its network of outpatient centers.

Experience: Odell has more than 20 years of leadership and management experience. Most recently, she was executive director of nursing for women’s and children’s services at WakeMed Health and Hospital Systems in Raleigh, N.C., managing the clinical, operational and financial outcomes for all associated inpatient units and clinical support services. Odell is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and an affiliate member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

Education: She has a bachelor’s from Bemidji State University in Minnesota and a master’s in nursing from Liberty University in Virginia. Besides a BSN and MSN, Odell is an RNC-OB and NE-BC.

Best advice: Utilize a strength-based approach to build a high performing team by being intentional about investing time in building relationships with your team members. Demonstrate a commitment to see them for who they are, identify their strengths and provide opportunities for team members to use their strengths to actively contribute to team goals.
